Olympic Games opening ceremony

The opening ceremony for the Vancouver Winter Olympics was really impressive. A fancy digital floor was used to display amazing scenery on the centre court of the stadium. The whale scene was one of the best. The prairie scene was also good, with all the wheat and blue skies. It means more if you've actually lived there. :-)

The aboriginal people of Canada were an integral part of the ceremonies. That was a really nice move, especially since most of the Olympic events are taking place on Native land.

We were really interested to see which famous Canadians would take part in the ceremonies. Donald Sutherland (actor, and father of Kiefer Sutherland from 24) was narrating the opening ceremony. Sarah McLachlan, KD lang, Ashley McIsaac, Bryan Adams and Nelly Furtado made an appearance. On the athlete side, we were glad to see that among the last few Olympic torch bearers were Steve Nash and Wayne Gretzky.

A malfunction at the end prevent one of the four beams to rise up and help light the Olympic flame. Luckily, the other three beams worked and the ceremony continued without further incident. All in all, it was a really well planned out and delivered opening ceremony.
